Coaching Resources

Some useful, if little known, things for coaches.

Batting Cages: The batting cage behind Hock1 is available for Softball.

The pitching machine lets you increase the speed the ball is thrown and is more consistent at hitting its marks then the standard coach. So it helps the girls practice hitting instead of swinging and missing.

Some helpful hints: See Mike Stanton for a key. The outlet for power is on the post of the scoreboard for Hock 1, the power switch for this outlet is in the utility room behind the snack stand.  Move the pitching machine off the concrete onto the grass for levels 8U and 10U, or move "home plate" closer to the machine.  Come early to set all this up so you don't waste practice time. Yield to LL 1/2 hour before their 7:30 game if they want to use it to warm up.  Cover the machine and pick up after yourselves when you are done. And most importantly...schedule the cage with Lisa Nelson.

Sliding Mat: No this isnt a person. Its a flat vinyl soft mat that the players can run at as if its 2nd, 3rd or home and learn to slide. It really works.

Bart Lombardi's Notes: Bart Lombardi, of Players Edge Training in Red Bank, has given a coaching lecture each of the past two years. He gave out handouts at the 2008 lecture and these are available. They detail tips on hitting, fielding and how to run a practice. We have not, and do not intend to post them here, that would require permission, but you can contact Paul Nelson (paulnelson@myway.com) for a copy.

Practice with another team: With the shortage of practice fields this year, ask another coach if you can run a combinded practice. Its great to socialize the players a little more, and you can have a scrimmage with "on-field" coaching.
